Background:

A recent estimate indicated that adults spend a significant proportion of their lives working – about 90,000 hours. Consequently, questions about how to motivate people and ensure peak performance at work are critical for managers and leaders.

Focusing on employee engagement is particularly important in the workplace because it correlates with multiple indicators of organizational success, e.g., higher revenue, higher levels of customer service and satisfaction, lower accident rates and lower employee turnover. However, current research shows that only about one third of employees in America are engaged. This is despite the fact that companies spend millions of dollars annually on employee engagement initiatives and leadership development programs.

Description:

This webinar will outline Hilliard and Lopez’s seven-step INSPIRE model. This unique model leverages multiple perspectives around engagement, leadership, positive psychology, empowerment, diversity and inclusion using a scholar-practitioner model. Dr. Hilliard will briefly discuss the components of this model ((ignite, nurture, strengths, performance management, inclusion, relationships, and empowerment), and offer practical ideas centered around two of these steps: 1) Nurturing employees through career development; and 2) Relating with authenticity and emotional intelligence.

In this session, you will learn about the following:

  • The seven-step INSPIRE model

  • The manager’s responsibilities for employee growth and development

  • Relating to employees with authenticity

  • An emotional intelligence skill model

  • Steps in relationship management with team members

Take-aways

  • A checklist to assess your nurturing / employee development skills

  • A questionnaire to assess your emotional intelligence

Presenter:

Dr. Pearl Hilliard is the founder of Hilliard Performance Solutions and has over twenty years of experience in consulting, coaching, learning, leadership development, integrated talent management and organizational improvement. She is passionate about employee engagement, remembering how she felt when she wasn’t engaged versus how she felt when she was energized and driven! Pearl coaches and consults with clients to maximize engagement and the performance of individuals, teams and organizations. Pearl received her EdD in Human Performance at Work from the University of Southern California, where she was Assistant Director of Talent Operations. She also has several coaching credentials.

Pearl and her colleague (Dr. Denise Lopez) coauthored a book, “Lead, Motivate, Engage: How to INSPIRE Your Team to Win at Work.” Shortly after publication in the summer of 2019, it became a # 1 new release on Amazon. Pearl and Denise felt that a practical, down-to-earth guidebook/toolkit was needed to inform managers and leaders how to motivate and engage their team members. Specifically, what can managers do to engage their employees? And what can we do at the individual level, to improve our own engagement?
